Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that rookie Matthew Mancina of the Guelph Storm is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week after posting two shutout victories in two starts for a perfect 2-0-0-0 record along with a goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000 for the week ending December 15.

Mancina stopped all 56 shots he faced last week to earn his first and second career shutout victories in back-to-back games helping the third place Storm keep pace in the OHL’s competitive Western Conference.  On Saturday his 35 saves earned him second star honours in a 4-0 win over the Owen Sound Attack, then on Sunday he made 21 saves to blank the top ranked Erie Otters as third star of a 5-0 win. 

Mancina, a 17-year-old from Tecumseh, ON, is playing in his first OHL season with the Storm.  Originally chosen in the third round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, Mancina has a 9-4-1-1 record with the Storm this season carrying a goals-against-average of 2.39 and save percentage of .919.

Honourable mention for the award this week was past winner Philippe Cadorette of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar who went 3-0-0-0 with two shutout victories posting a goals-against-average of 0.67 and save percentage of .974, and last season’s CHL Goaltender of the Year Patrik Bartosak of the Red Deer Rebels who went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory for a 0.96 goals-against-average and a .975 save percentage.
