That time is upon us as the Greyhounds will host their annual development camp this coming weekend. It was at the development camp last season where Michael Bunting introduced himself to the Greyhound faithful as he registered a hattrick in the first scrimmage and continued to score all the way to training camp in September. This years camp roster has a nice balance of draft picks and free agent invites. A few names that jump out to me in particular are Matt Caruso and Cole Lussier. Both of these players were teammates of Hounds 2013 1st rounder Blake Speers with the Soo Thunder. This past season they spent time in Waterloo and Soo Michigan respectivly to continue with their hockey careers. Another player Hounds fans should keep an eye on is Bryce Hatten who comes from the Michigan Nationals program. Anyone who follows the Soo Thunder would know that they are a regular opponent and were one of the teams invited to the Greyhounds minor midget showcase in 2013.

The 2014 draft picks I would be most interested in seeing would be 3rd rounder Timmy Gettinger and 10th rounder Keeghan Howdeshell. Both players were invites to the USNTDP camp last month and both carry intriguing skill sets. From the 2013 draft class Chris Klack is one of the more intriguing prospects. One of the top prospects in the GOJHL Chris is widely considered to be one of the top uncommited prospects in Ontario gaining high praise from the website Thescout.ca.

Not surprisingly of the 3 Hounds prospects playing for St Andrews College this past season none will be at the development camp. 2 have already made NCAA commitments and it seems the 3rd is leaning that way.

Without further ado here is the camp roster as well as a little blurb on their most recent season and where they have played.

Team Red

30. Joseph Raaymakers G/98 2nd Rd, 2014

The last Hounds goalie to be taken in the 2nd round of the OHL priority selection was Matt Murray. Will be suiting up for team Alliance in the upcoming OHL Cup in Kitchener.

A rare US born FA invite, Brandon is a product of the Honeybaked system and spent last year with their U18 program on a team that included London Knights 2014 1st rounder Max Jones. Was taken by the Sioux Falls Stampede in the 7th round of the 2013 USHL Futures draft.

Hounds fans got a taste of what this speedy forward can bring over Christmas when he added a goal and an assist in 4 games. Spent the rest of the year with the Smith Falls Bears helping them reach the CCHL finals where they ultimately fell to the Carleton Place Canadians. Was named to the CCHL All-Rookie team this year after picking up 22 goals in 52 games followed by 10 points in 16 playoff games.

11. Anthony Salinitri F/98 1st Rd, 2014

Hounds 1st round draft pick and the Alliance Hockey play of the year. Cracked independent scout Brendan Ross’s list for top 10 forwards (10) and top 5 forcasted OHL careers for forwards (3). Spent this past season with the Windsor Jr Spitfires minor midget team. He also got into 1 GOJHL game with the Leamington Flyers where he scored a goal.  Will represent team Alliance in the upcoming OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener.

22. Jack Kopacka F/98 8th Rd, 2014

Spent last season with the Compuware U16 program in the Detroit area. Picked up 24 points in 22 games via 7 goals and 17 assists. Jack is a player who statistically has improved each year form Minor Bantam to Bantam to the U16 team.

26. Tim Gettinger F/98 3rd Rd, 2014

The Hounds 3rd round pick this year from the Cleveland area where he scored 24 goals in 36 games. Tim comes into camp as the tallest player at 6’4” and 188lbs. Tim was also a participant at the recent USNTDP camp last month.

28. Matt Caruso F/97 Free Agent

Spent his minor midget season with the Soo Thunder before moving on to the Major Midget Waterloo Wolves after the Soo North Stars failed to ice a team. Facing better competition in Southern Ontario Matt made the most of his opportunity by finishing 5th in Alliance scoring with 46 points in 32 games. Matt also suited up for the Waterloo Siskins for 1 game in the GOJHL.

Team White

31. Adrian Clark G/97 8th Rd, 2013

After winning an OHL Cup with the Oakville Rangers in 2013 Adrian suited up for the Vaughan Kings Major Midget team this past season. He also APed for the Stouffville Spirit of the OJHL but did not see any game action.

35. Mario Culina G/97 Free Agent

Another member of the ’97 Soo Thunder to be getting a look at the development camp. Mario spent last season with the Waterloo Wolves major midget team with fellow camp invite Matt Caruso. Statistically speaking Mario put together a great season in Waterloo where he finished 7th in the Alliance loop with 9 wins and 1st in GAA at 1.89.

6. Hayden Verbeek F/97 4th Rd, 2013

Another player with OHL experience as Hayden got into 5 games with the Hounds over the Christmas holidays. Chatham would make it all the way to the Western Conference finals in the GOJHL before ultimately bowing out of the playoffs.

8. Elijah Nurse F/98 13th Rd, 2014

The cousin of Hounds captain Darnell Nurse, Elijah spent last season for the Hamilton Huskies minor midget program out of the Alliance Association. Elijah picked up 10 points in 32 games but I wouldn’t read to much into his stats as the Huskies were one of the weaker teams in Ontario.

9. Lucas Latina F/97 Free Agent

Lucas played his major midget season with the Markham Waxers, helping them win a bronze medal in the OHF championship. Picked up 14 points along with 60 PIMS in 27 games played.

10. Geoff Kitt F/97 Free Agent

Another member of the ’97 Soo Thunder team. Andrew also suited up for the NOHA in the 2013 OHL Cup and Gold Cup. Spent last season across the river playing for the Soo Indians where he picked up 16 points in 51 games.

13. Boris Katchouk F/98 2nd Rd, 2014

The first of two 2nd round picks the Hounds had this past draft. An offensive dynamo from the Waterloo Wolves team that won the Alliance championship. Boris tallied 58 points in 29 games for Waterloo which was good for 3rd in the Alliance. His 11 power play goals led the circuit.

14. Brent House F/97 14th Rd, 2013

A late round pick up from 2013 Brent spent last season with the London Jr Knights in the Alliance major midget loop. His 16 goals in the regular season was good enough for 14th in the league and his 14 points in the playoffs was good enough for 6th.

18. Chris Klack F/97 6th Rd, 2013

Rated as one of the top uncommitted players in Ontario by thescout.ca. Chris spent last season with the Ancaster Avalanche of the GOJHL where he was named to their midseason prospect all star team.
