Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Connor McDavid of the Erie Otters is the OHL Player of the Week after leading the league with 11 points in three games scoring four goals with seven assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-8 for the week ending March 9.

McDavid recorded three straight multi-point games to help lead the Otters to three straight wins last week helping the club reach the 100-point mark for the first time since 2001.  McDavid collected two straight four-point games to open the week earning first star honours in both contests including Wednesday night with a goal and three assists as part of an 11-2 win over the Plymouth Whalers, and on Friday night with two goals and two assists in a 6-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires.  He finished the week with a three-point performance scoring his 25th goal of the season to match his rookie year total and claimed second star honours in a 7-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers on Saturday.

McDavid, a 17-year-old from Newmarket, ON, is playing in his second OHL season with the Otters and is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.  The 2013 OHL Rookie of the Year has moved up to fourth in the OHL scoring race with 93 points in just 53 games.

Also considered for the award this week was Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ryan Rupert of the London Knights with eight points including three goals and five assists in three games, and Carolina Hurricanes prospect Sergey Tolchinsky of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with seven points including three goals and four assists in three games.  In goal, Greyhounds’ rookie Brandon Halverson won two games including a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .986.
