Ontario Hockey League Game Day Previews for Tuesday March 6 2012

Guelph at Kitchener

Guelph is now in seventh place – tied with Windsor with wins and points (60. Sault Ste Marie is 2 points below both teams and would not qualify for the playoffs if they started up today.  The Storm have certainly helped themselves in the standings by winning their last 3 games.   On Sunday Guelph was able to push by the 67’s by winning in a shootout. They peppered Nishi with 47 shots – scoring 3 times in the second period.  Cody McNaughton has 8 goals in his past 9 games – Zack Mitchell has 6 goals in his past 8 games.

The Rangers haven’t played since Friday at Sudbury. The Wolves were not very gracious hosts as they outscored Kitchener in the second and third periods en route to an 8-5 victory. OHL Player of the Week Michael Sgarbossa  was ‘on fire’ with 2 goals and 3 assists.  Kitchener has lost 4 in a row and only 3 in their past 10 games.  They are 13 points behind the #1 London Knights and 9 points ahead of the Owen Sound Attack.

My prediction  Guelph 4  Kitchener 2

Brampton at Sudbury

Brampton is tied for third in the Eastern Conference. They have 3 fewer wins, but the same amount of points as the Colts (76).  The Battalion have won 6 of their last 10 games. Their last win was a 5-2 win at home vs. the Mississauga St. Mike’s Majors.  Three second period goals were enough for the Battalion to earn the ‘W’.  Barclay Goodrow had 2 goals and 2 assists – Sam Carrick had 2 assists and Brandon Robinson chipped in 1 goal and 1 assist.  Their remaining 4 games are all Eastern Conference opponents – Oshawa and and Ottawa at home and Peterborough and Barrie on the road.

Sudbury is in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and has clinched a playoff spot. They have won 2 games in a row, but only 5 in their past 10 matches. The Wolves were not very gracious hosts on Friday as they outscored Kitchener in the second and third periods en route to an 8-5 victory. OHL Player of the Week Michael Sgarbossa recorded 2 goals and 3 assists in the game. Kuchin was also active with 1 goal and 2 assists – Michael MacDonald and Josh Leivo each had 1 goal and 1 assist.  On Saturday night the Wolves would win again by the tune of 4-1 vs. Peterborough. Sgarbossa was active again with a 3 point night which pushed him into a tie for the top spot in the OHL Scoring race (Toffoli and he both have 92 points).

My prediction Brampton 2 Sudbury 4
