Ontario Hockey League Game Day Previews for Tuesday January 8 2013
Pictured is Josh Leivo who is rumored to be in a trade with teammate Frank Corrado en route to Kitchener. The Rangers are sending Goalie Palazzesse and Schmalz along with a draft pick to complete the deal. If it in fact happens, then Kitchener receives a much needed shot in the arm to their offense – Leivo had 44 points with the Wolves and Corrado has been a productive defencemen this season earning 21 assists.
Guelph at Kitchener
There are many similarities between these teams. Both are in the upper half of the Western Conference. Both have identical records of 21-13-1-4 and corresponding 47 point totals this season. Both have only 4 wins in their last 10 games and both teams have not won their past 3 games.
Kitchener’s top scorer – Puempel continues to rehab his shoulder, Faksa will be getting to go the Dallas Stars camp, Reider,Murphy and Gibson will have jet lag from their Russian tournament no doubt. If the Rangers are able to take advantage of their chances then the game will be close.
Guelph’s top scorer Tanner Richard is also returning from the WJHC so don’t expect him on the ice for this contest. Scott Kosmachuk leads the team with 19 goals but has only netted one in the past 12 games. He is only 1 point behind top scorer Richard. Zack Mitchell has 6 powerplay goals this season but only 2 points in the past 5 games.
The Storm will host the Colts and Fronts this weekend and then travel out East next weekend. The Rangers will travel to Peterborough on Thursday night and then rush back to host Sarnia on Friday night. They will host Niagara on Sunday afternoon to complete their weekend schedule.
My prediction Guelph 3 Kitchener 2
