Ontario Hockey League Game Day Preview for Wednesday February 22 2012
Only one game in action today – a very important 2 points up for grabs between these teams.
Sarnia at Owen Sound
Sarnia leads Owen Sound by 1 point in the standings.
Owen Sound has been playing good hockey lately –accumulating 6 wins this month. Binnington has been solid in the nets with a record of 5-1. Halmo has scored in 12 straight games and is in 6thplace in overall OHL scoring. Chris Bigras has a 7 game point streak going aswell. Owen Sound are the most penalized team in the league with 1168 PIM.
Sarnia has had many of their players hurt recently – at one point missing 4 regular starting defencemen.
Even with those injuries the ‘patched up’ squad was able to get past the London Knights on the weeked by a score of 6-2 despite being outshot by 11. Brett Thompson led the pace with 2 goals and 1 assist. Nail Yakupov is drawing a lot of attention for his offensive play – in his 34 games played this year he has accumulated 61 points. Sarnia has the second lowest PIM in the league with only 801. Powerplay chances could be the story in the this game.
