OJHL West Division Week 8 Review
Strange week as the 2nd place team in the West the Georgetown Raiders didn’t play a single game. The Buffalo Jr Sabres were ranked once again in the CJHL top 20 and responded with 3 wins in 3 games. The Milton Icehawks picked up 2 wins this week with star goalie Ben Blacker away at the Canada East selection camp. They will have to try to pick up more as he was named to the squad and is on his way to Yarmouth NS. Orangeville was able to pick up win number 2 on the season at the expense of struggling Hamilton while Burlington picked up a split on the weekend beating Trenton but then losing to Aurora.
Game of the Week Review
Hamilton Redwings @ Orangeville Flyers
The Hamilton Redwings have cooled a fair bit since their hot start and were looking to reverse their fortunes Saturday with a trip up to Orangeville. The Flyers on the other hand had other things in mind as they were looking for their 2nd win of the season. They would have to do it however without the services of start forward Peter Angelopoulos who was out serving a suspension.
The first period started well for the Redwings as they were able to get an early goal but in realitly the 1st was all Orangeville. They Flyers came out true to their name flying all over the ice outshooting Hamilton 15-4 and while Hamilton got an early marker the Flyers picked up the final 2 goals of the period and exited the opening frame with a 2-1 lead.
The teams exchanged goals around the midway point of the 2nd period and with Orangeville up 3-2 we had some fisticuffs. Kevin Thacker and Chance MacDonald decided to square off earning each of them a game misconduct. It was a questionable call by MacDonald as he had been one of Hamilton’s biggest offensive threats with a goal and an assist up to that point. Shortly after the fight Orangeville made it a 4-2 game and it would stay that way as the period ended.
Orangeville found themselves in some early penalty trouble in the 3rd period as a slew of rough penalties gave the Red Wings a 2 man advantage for 1:51 and while they threw everything at the Orangeville net they had nothing to show for it. With just over 8 minutes remaining in the 3rd period Ian Nichols was able to put it away with his 3rd of the season.
That is now 2 wins for the Orangeville Flyers in the 2 games they have been previewed as the west division game of the week. The Hamilton Redwings however go back to the drawing board as they have a big week coming up including a road visit to the hard charging Burlington Cougars who they knocked of twice in the opening weeks of the season.
West Division 3 Stars

2)Pat Egan (Buf)
A pair of 3 point games as well as 3 wins for the Jr Sabres locked up the 2nd star for Pat Egan.

Team of the Week
Buffalo Jr Sabres
Another strong week for the only OJHL west division team to be ranked in the CJHL top 20 as Buffalo picked up 3 wins in 3 games and now have points in 7 straight games and 10 of 11. This week there were no inter-divisional matchups as they had home games against North division opponent Lindsay, East division opponent Cobourg and South division opponent Mississauga. In all they outscored their opponents 14-6 this week and have increased their West division lead to 9 points over Georgetown.
Honourable mention: Milton Icehawks
