Game of the Week Review: Wellington Dukes at Milton Icehawks
The Wellington Dukes would board their bus and make the trip down to the Milton Memorial Arena to take on rookie sensation Ben Blacker and the Milton Icehawks. The Dukes wouldn’t wait long to make a mark when Dukes blueliner Kyle Paat would find the back of the net with rookie Maurizio Colella getting the helper. Mike Soucier would also find the back of the net four minutes later with both former OHL’ers Chad Thibodeau and Mike Robinson getting assists on the goal. Wellington would outshoot the Icehawks 12-8 and hold a 2-0 lead at the end of the 1st. Milton would start the second period on the powerplay and would capitalize when Mitch Graham would pot one at 1:52 in the 1st period. The Icehawks would dominate the 2nd period outshooting the Dukes badly 16-9, before at 13:13 Maurizio Colella would get a marker with Abbott Girduckis and Joe Mckeown getting the markers. Although Milton would dominate the period the Dukes would still lead 3-1 going into the 3rd period. Things would even up in the 3rd in terms of shots, but Milton would dominate where it matters with ,CJHL 1st star of the month, Shane Bennett and Josh Pace getting goals to tie the game and send it to overtime. The period of overtime wouldn’t solve anything so the game would go to over time. Both of the first shooters wouldn’t find the mesh. Erick Delaurentis(WEL) and Shane Bennett(MIL) would both score, the next two shooters would not capitalize so the shootout would go another round. Joe Mckeown would get the puck next for Wellington, and was not able to find the net. Ryan Burns was next up and go down and put one past goaltender Tyson Teichman to win the game.
