OHL's Draft Eligible Three Stars
Here are your OHL's draft eligible three stars for last week as selected by a panel of Independent scouts, media and OHL blogers :
First Star – Trevor Carrick – Mississauga St Mikes Majors: Known more for his defensive game, Carrick came alive offensively this week scoring three goals and adding two assists in the four Majors’ games last week. It began with a 3-1 win over the Sudbury Wolves with Carrick contributing an assist. That was followed by a game tying powerplay goal in a 3-2 win over the Niagara Ice Dogs. Carrick again scored the game tying goal in a 2-1 win over the Barrie Colts and then closed out the week with a goal and assist in a 6-0 win over the Erie Otters. The defenseman now has 4 goals and 10 assists on the season and is a minus 9 but a plus 9 in the month of February.
Second Star – Nail Yakupov – Sarnia Sting: Yakupov scored 4 goals, 2 of which are youtube sensations last week, and added an assist while going a plus 5 in four games for the Sting. He began the week with a goal in a 6-2 win over the London Knights. That was followed by another goal in a 4-3 loss to the Owen Sound Attack. Yakupov was held off the score sheet in a 5-0 victory over the Windsor Spitfires before posting 2 goals and an assist including the game winner with 3 seconds remaining in a 5-4 win over the Guelph Storm. Yakupov now has 30 goals and 35 assists in just 37 games this season.
Third Star – Connor Brown – Erie Otters: The Otters forward posted a goal and five assists in four games for the Otters last week. Let’s face it though, in Erie, helping your team get wins requires a miracle, one that doesn’t happen very often. But Brown put in a solid effort. It started in with a 4-1 win in Belleville with Brown notching a goal (the game winner) and an assist. Then came a two assist effort in a losing cause, 6-3 to the Soo Greyhounds. Again he posted two assists in yet another losing cause, this time 4-3 to the Kingston Frontenacs. He was held off the scoreboard in the final matchup, a 6-0 spanking at the hands of the Majors. Brown has 20 goals and 24 assists in 59 games.
