The Christmas break is upon us and thus marks the unofficial halfway point of the Ontario Hockey League season. The start of the New Year also marks an increase in fan attention to the National Hockey League Draft and the players eligible for that draft.

Every Monday on OHL Writers we examine the leaders in every statistical category, but with the early break, we are a day early this week. We look at all the Ontario Hockey League goaltenders available for the NHL Draft as well as the skaters eligible for the first time only – those passed over in previous drafts are not included.

The Oshawa Generals’ Michael Dal Colle leads in points with 58 in 36 games. But coming on strongly lately and right behind him is Nikolay Goldobin of the Sarnia Sting with 53. It must be noted that Goldobin has been involved in 47.3% of his team’s offense, a team mired in last place. Brendan Perlini, who struggled for a few weeks, is still in the picture with 51 points in 35 games as is Sam Bennett of the Kingston Frontenacs with 50 points in 33 games. All four are top 12 in OHL scoring.

Goldobin leads Dal Colle in the goal scoring department with 25, compared to 24 for the latter. But it’s Robby Fabbri of the Guelph Storm as the guy to watch here who comes in third with 21. Fabbri, who missed 10 games while serving a suspension, is actually scoring at a better clip with .84 goals per game while Goldobin (.71) and Dal Colle (.67) trail. All three are top 10 in goals scored in the entire league.

Sarnia defenseman Anthony DeAngelo leads all draft eligible players in assists with 39, 5 more than Dal Colle. Kingston’s Sam Bennett comes in third with 31, while all three are top 10 in the entire league.

DeAngelo not only leads draft eligible defensemen in points, but all defensemen in the OHL with 48 points in 33 games. He’s followed by Kingston’s Roland McKeown with 27 and Aaron Ekblad with 25. Ekblad is away with Team Canada at the World Junior Championships while DeAngelo made team USA’s camp but was cut from the team.
