OHL’s Draft Eligible 3 Stars – Week 20
In four seasons of doing the draft eligible 3 stars (the first season I selected them myself while after that a panel of independent scouts and writers voted) we’ve never had goaltenders go 1, 2 and 3 in the voting. So would week 20 of the Ontario Hockey League season be any different?
1st Star – Dalen Kuchmey – Windsor Spitfires: Kuchmey went 2-0-0 last week with a .50 goals against average and .982 save percentage with one shutout. On Thursday, Kuchmey stopped all 30 shots on his way to being named the game’s first star as the Spitfires defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 4-0. On Saturday, he was named the game’s third star as he stopped 26 of 27 Guelph Storm shots to lead the Spitfires to a 3-1 victory. Kuchmey is now 13-6-2-0 on the season with a 3.02 goals against average and .903 save percentage with 2 shutouts.
2nd Star – Devin Williams – Erie Otters: Williams went 2-0-0 on the week with a 1.00 goals against average and .960 save percentage. Williams stopped 30 of 31 shots as the Otters defeated the Belleville Bulls 3-1 on Monday. On Thursday, Williams stopped 18 of 19 shots he faces as the Otters easily handled the Niagara Ice Dogs 8-1. On the season Williams has a 17-4-1-0 record with a 2.74 goals against average to go along with a .903 save percentage.
3rd Star – Nick Ritchie – Peterborough Petes: On Thursday night the Petes played their loan game of the week, a 6-0 win over the Ottawa 67’s. Ritchie scored 3 times in the contest upping his season goal total to 23. Ritchie has 25 assists to go with those 23 goals in 42 games this season. He was named the game’s first star.
