Monday morning brings our 3 stars among players from the Ontario Hockey League that are eligible for the National Hockey League draft for the week ending January 19,2014.
1st Star - Eric Cornel - Peterborough Petes: In 3 games last week Cornel scored 4 goals and added 3 assists for the Petes. On Thursday, Cornel scored once in Peterborough's 5-4 win over Mississauga. On Friday he added a goal and an assist in a 7-4 victory over Sarnia. On Saturday Peterborough made it 3 for 3 beating Ottawa by the same 7-4 score. Cornel had 2 goals and 2 assists and was named the game's first star.
2nd Star - Justin Nichols - Guelph Storm: Nichols was a perfect 3-0 last week stopping 70 of the 72 shots he faced and recording a shutout. On Friday he stopped 28 of 29 Kitchener shots as Guelph beat the Rangers 4-1. On Saturday he stopped all 25 shots he face in a 1-0 victory over Erie. He was named the games third star. On Sunday he faced 38 shots in a 6-1 win over Kingston and was the games first star.
3rd Star - Jake Smith - North Bay Battalion: Smith faced 72 shots last week while stopping 67 of them in three games. On Thursday he stopped 34 of 37 in a 4-3 shootout loss to Barrie.On Saturday Smith stopped 24 of 25 in a 4-1 win over Mississauga and was named the games first star. And on Sunday he was named the games third star as he stopped 20 of 21 in a 5-1 win over Niagara.
