Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending prospect Matt Murray of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 10 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory along with a goals-against-average of 1.62 and save percentage of .945.
Murray becomes the second straight goaltender to win the award after stopping 86 shots in three wins helping the Greyhounds build on their West Division lead holding a 15-2-0-2 record. On Tuesday night Murray and the Hounds traveled to North Bay to renew their northern rivalry where he made 28 saves and earned third star honours in the 5-3 win over the Battalion. Back on home ice Thursday, Murray picked up his league-leading third shutout of the season with 26 saves to blank the Owen Sound Attack 3-0. Murray finished the week collecting first star honours as part of a 3-2 shootout win over the Peterborough Petes where he stopped 32 shots in regulation and overtime before turning aside six of seven shooters to clinch the win for the Hounds.
Murray, a 19-year-old from Thunder Bay, ON, is playing in his fourth career OHL season with the Greyhounds. Selected by the Penguins in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Murray has a 12-2-0-2 record and currently leads the OHL with a league-low goals-against-average of 2.10 and league-high save percentage of .930. Murray will represent the OHL in the 2013 SUBWAY Super Series games on November 21 in Oshawa, and November 25 in Sudbury.
Also considered for the award this week was 2014 NHL Draft prospect Michael Dal Colle of the Oshawa Generals who scored three goals and six assists for nine points in four games, and Sam Babintsev of the Mississauga Steelheads who scored three goals and four assists for seven points in three games.
