Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Philadelphia Flyers prospect Scott Laughton of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 23 after scoring four goals and three assists for seven points in four games with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

A runner-up for the award last week, Laughton claims the weekly award for a second time this season helping the Eastern Conference leading Generals to three wins in four games.  Laughton’s week was highlighted by a four-point performance on Sunday night against the Kingston Frontenacs in a battle between the top two East Division clubs.  In that contest Laughton scored his third hat-trick of the season and added an assist as first star of the 7-2 triumph.  His week also included two assists on Monday despite a 6-3 loss to the London Knights, followed by a goal on Friday night in a 3-2 road win over the Frontenacs, and was held scoreless on Saturday night as the Generals prevailed with a 4-1 win over the Belleville Bulls.

Laughton, a 19-year-old from Oakville, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Generals.  Canada’s captain at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship was selected by the Flyers in the first round, 20th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.  He is currently tied for tenth in OHL scoring with a career-high 80 points including 37 goals and 43 assists in 48 games.

Also considered for the award this week was New Jersey Devils prospect Ben Johnson of the Windsor Spitfires with one goal and six assists for seven points in four games, and Zack Mitchell who scored twice with four assists for six points in three games tying the Guelph Storm all-time career games played record with 313.  In goal, 2014 NHL Draft prospect Alex Nedeljkovic went 2-1-0-0 for the Plymouth Whalers with a goals-against-average of 2.35 and save percentage of .945.
