1st Star – Brendan Gaunce – Belleville Bulls: Put simply: One of the best offensive outbursts of the season. It began with a 6-4 loss to the Ottawa 67’s where Gaunce was in on every one of the Bulls’ goals when he registered four assists. He was shut out the next game at the hands of the Oshawa Generals in an 8-1 thrashing. Knowing his team was in a battle for a playoff spot, Gaunce did his part putting up 4 assists again in an 8-3 win over the Mississauga St Mikes majors. Gaunce now has 24 goals and 35 assists in 55 games this season.
2nd Star – Cody Ceci – Ottawa 67’s: Ceci quietly continues to put up points for the 67’s, notching 2 goals and 2 assists and was a plus 6 in three games for the 67’s. He had an assist in the 6-4 over Belleville Bulls. He followed that up with a goal and an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Peterborough Petes. He closed out the week with an assist in a 6-1 win over the Erie Otters and was a plus 5 in the game. Ceci has 13 goals and 39 assists in 52 games on the season.
3rd Star – Warren Steele – Kingston Frontenacs & Scott Laughton – Oshawa Generals: For the first time this season we had a tie in the voting and as the tiebreaker, I couldn’t decide which deserved the honour more so I decided to leave it as a tie. In two games Steele had 5 assists and was a plus 5. He had 3 assists in a 5-3 win over the Peterborough Petes followed by a 2 assist effort in a 9-3 win over the Erie Otters. Remarkably, he was on the ice for only 1 goal against. Steele now has 6 goals and 21 assists in 56 games.
Laughton continues to provide offense for the Generals while being a key shut down guy. He had 3 goals and two assists in two games for the Generals. It started with 3 goals and an assist in an 8-1 beating of the Belleville Bulls. It was Laughton’s first hat trick of the season. He followed that up with an assist in a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Barrie Colts. Laughton has 17 goals and 29 assists in 53 games on the season.
