The Ontario Hockey League enters its final week of the regular season and this will be the second to last installment of the 3 stars of the week before we announce the 3 stars for the season.  There’s still plenty at stake here especially in the Eastern Conference where three teams, Mississauga, Kingston and Peterborough battle for the final two playoff spots.

So this brings us to the three stars for last week:

1st Star-Carter Verhaeghe-Niagara Ice Dogs: Verhaeghe is our first star based on two solid performances where he also contributed with two goals and two assists in two games for the Ice Dogs. He scored once and added a helper in both contests. The first to points came in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Steelheads where he also garnered the games second star. The last pair of points came against Barrie where he had the game winning goal in the 6-5 win and was named the games third star.

2nd Star-Zach Nastasiuk-Owen Sound Attack: Nastasiuk potted three goals and added two assists for the Attack in three games last week. It started with a single marker in a 4-3 shootout loss to the London Knights. He then added a goal and two assists in a 9-1 thumping of the Erie Otters, where many thought he should have been named one of the games three stars but his name was omitted. He added another goal in the rematch with Erie in the Attack’s 6-4 win and was named the games third star this time around.

3rd Star-Kerby Rychel-Windsor Spitfires: His Spitfires have been officially eliminated from the playoffs but Rychel continues to produce. He scored three goals and added three assists in two games last week. He scored two goals and added an assist in a 7-4 win over the Soo Greyhounds to keep his teams slim playoff hopes alive and was named the games second star. While their backs were up against the wall he scored once and added two assists in their 8-1 win over the London Knights.
